I want to begin this post by saying it’s not Dosa in Kannada, it’s Dose. I am not a language fanatic but it still annoys me when a person says it wrong even after correcting him like hundred times. Anyway, enough ranting now. I am going to finish this real quick.
Here are a few types of Dose that are believed to be originated in Karnataka:
Davanagere Benne Dose:
This Dose is made of rice like any other Doses. What sets it apart is the usage of Benne (butter). It also comes with mashed potatoes filling. Yum Yum! Do you count the calories that you eat? Don’t, just savour it.
You can find the best Benne Dose in Bangalore @ Shree Sagar (CTR), Malleshwaram.
Mysore Masala Dose:
It is not very different from the normal masala Dose that we get at every Adigas and Shanti Sagars in Bangalore, except the red chutney spread that’s made of onion, garlic, ginger, red chillies and chana dal.
Note: It tastes the best when it’s hot.
You can find the best Mysore Masala Dose at Indian Coffee House, Koramangala
How can I not mention Vidyarthi Bhavan and MTR when I am talking about Doses in Bangalore?
Vidyarthi Bhavan is the most famous restaurant in Bangalore. You need to stand in a queue for at least a hour to eat here. Their masala doses are iconic – the best in Bangalore. A MUST try place!
MTR – Mavalli Tiffin Room is older than Vidyarthi Bhavan and serves good Doses. Though it is famous for its breakfast menu in general, Doses here are good.
Oh, I am craving for Doses now.
